- Extended Curing Time: Excess moisture can prolong the concrete's setting and curing time, delaying project timelines and making the concrete more vulnerable to early damage. Proper curing is essential for concrete to reach its intended strength. In Southern California's typically dry climate, contractors often focus on preventing rapid drying, but rain presents the opposite challenge.
- Washout: Heavy rain can wash away cement paste from the surface of the concrete, exposing the aggregate underneath. This not only looks unprofessional but also compromises the structural integrity of the surface layer.
When a Light Drizzle Might Be Tolerable
In some cases, a very light drizzle that passes quickly might allow for pouring, provided immediate and comprehensive protective measures are taken. This usually involves:
